Dr. Vania V. Estrela is a Professor at the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), Brazil, and serves as Deputy Editor for Neuroscience Informatics (Elsevier). She holds a B.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), an M.Sc. from the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA), a second M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Northwestern University, USA, and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, USA.
Throughout her distinguished academic career, Dr. Estrela has taught at several renowned institutions, including DeVry University, DePaul University, Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense (UENF), Universidade Estadual da Zona Oeste (UEZO), and as a Visiting Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IPRJ/UERJ). She currently serves in the Department of Telecommunications at Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), Niterói, Brazil.
Her research interests span a wide range of interdisciplinary fields, including signal processing, inverse problems, computational and mathematical modeling, stochastic models, multimedia systems, electronic instrumentation, machine learning, cyber-physical systems, health informatics, Health 4.0 technologies, optimization, and remote sensing. Dr. Estrela is an active reviewer for numerous prestigious international journals published by Elsevier, Springer, IET, and IEEE.
In addition to her research and editorial contributions, she is actively engaged in initiatives related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), technology transfer, STEAM education, environmental sustainability, and digital inclusion. Dr. Estrela is a member of IEEE and ACM and has edited several books and special issues, making significant contributions to advancing science, engineering, and technology worldwide.
